Individual Counseling
Individual Counseling in Springfield, VA and Online
Individual counseling provides a focused, confidential space to talk through concerns that may feel difficult to manage on your own. People seek therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, major life transitions, or a general sense of feeling stuck.
Working one-on-one with a licensed professional counselor can help you slow down, reflect, and gain clarity. Therapy is not about being told what to do. It is a collaborative process that supports insight, perspective, and meaningful change over time.
What Individual Counseling Is Like
Individual counseling is shaped around your goals and needs. Sessions offer space to think aloud, notice patterns, and explore new ways of responding to challenges.
Elizabeth will listen with care and without judgment. She works collaboratively, offering reflection and practical tools when helpful, while respecting your autonomy and lived experience. Counseling is a place where you do not need to manage anyone else’s reactions or protect other people’s feelings.
This is time set aside for you—focused, private, and free from outside distractions.

Sessions and Scheduling
Individual counseling sessions are 55 minutes, which allows adequate time to settle in, explore concerns thoughtfully, and close sessions in a grounded way. Many clients begin by meeting weekly, though frequency can change over time based on your needs and preferences.
Your first appointment is an intake session. This session focuses on what brings you to counseling, relevant background information, and what you hope to work on. It also provides time to ask questions and determine whether the work feels like a good fit.
In some situations, shorter sessions may be appropriate. If you are interested in a session length shorter than 55 minutes, please discuss this directly with Elizabeth so you can decide together what will best support your work in therapy.
